Spearfish South Dakota City Campground

This is a campground owned by the city of Spearfish, South Dakota.  It has 60+ sites for all types and sizes of RV's plus over 300 tent sites. Though it is closed in the winters, this campground is always busy in the summer. A good source if revenue for the city.

This is the office where I hope to be workamping next summer! Chuck and I put in our applications to work here because the Black Hills area of SD is beautiful with all kinds of places to explore. That and the fact that this campground is beautiful!

Spearfish Creek splits into 2 creeks passing on both sides of the campground. You can hear the water rushing over the rocks from anywhere in the park.

It is a beautiful creek of clear water. The water goes from the campground to the city owned fish hatchery just across the bridge. It is easy walking distance! I will show some of the hatchery my next blog.

Chuck and I took walks daily along the creek. Spearfish has a paved walkway from downtown following the creek to several miles east of town! Great place for biking, walking the dogs, jogging or just enjoying nature.

We loved this motor coach's back window! So True!

The MotherShip fits right in with all the other sun blockers! There are wildflowers all along the walkway by the creek!

We saw wild lilacs everywhere, but they were about past their prime. I never did learn the names of these flowers, but they were abundant all over town. So were poppies!

I had never seen a real poppy before. Just the silk variety! They are in beautiful splashes of color all over Spearfish! I love them!

More wildflowers!

Our last night in town so Paul and Diane treated us to some ice cream! It was really good! One thing these two know is where the good food places are! We went to some casinos in the nearby town of Deadwood, that had amazing snowcrab legs and prime rib all you could eat dinners! YUM! Thanks for everything you two, it was fun seeing you! Hopefully we will be working together at this campground next year!

On our last night in Spearfish, we had a spectacular sunset! Amazing colors of lavender and pinks and blues! We left 6-15-2010 but we will be back!

The Badlands of South Dakota

I'm not sure what I was expecting, but I wasn't expecting this. My words can't begin to touch the beauty so I'll just let the photographs speak to you!

If you want to view them in a larger size, just click onto the image.  Enjoy!

It had rained the night before, this made the colors even more intense!

The roads go on forever!

Of course we had to have pictures taken in front of the famous Wall Drug dinosaur! The Badlands loop road takes a short run on the Interstate 90 and past the town of Wall, where the now famous Wall Drug Store put this town on the map! We had so much fun looking here and we even got our Wall Drug Store bumper sticker! Great art galleries and just fun place to walk around!

When Chuck was in the Air Force, he and the crew he worked with, delivered 3 of these minute man missles to Langley AFB in South Dakota. Interesting side trip from Interstate 90!

Hope you enjoyed the trip through the Badlands National Park! Also wanted you to know that the restaurant there, Cedar Breaks is wonderful. I had an Indian Taco made with bison meat and Chuck had a bison burger! Hope you enjoyed the tour through the Badlands National Park!
